Air Vanuatu Guests to Expect Further Delays

Despite successfully chartering a jet to bring spare parts from Brisbane on Saturday afternoon, Air Vanuatu has not fully resolved the mechanical situation and flights remain grounded on the morning of Sunday 18th of December.

The airline has released a statement acknowledging how critical the situation is for guests and confirming that their senior team are working on finding solutions around the clock. Air Vanuatu has confirmed they have reached out to their partner airlines to request assistance. However, the response is that at this time every airline is operating at capacity, and none are able to put on extra flights via Vanuatu.

The Air Vanuatu team are now relying on their partnership with Qantas; to urgently obtain additional parts from Australia. Another jet is already on standby in Brisbane to fly this to Vanuatu today.

The airline has provided all affected guests with accommodation and meals. Guests are requested to continue to check for updates online on our travel advisories page. The airline has confirmed that their customer service staff are calling clients on the numbers registered in their bookings this morning, to inform them of further changes.

The CEO Mr Atu Finau has spoken to the Prime Minister this morning and briefed the airline stakeholders of the situation. Given that safety is always paramount, and with the airline only having one international Boeing 737, they must take the time to complete the necessary engineering work before flights may resume. It is currently estimated that if parts arrive today, that flights may resume on Monday.
