Restriction on Cabin Baggage
Some items cannot be carried in the cabin of the aircraft and are therefore classified as Prohibited Items under this Conditions of Carriage (Prohibited Items). Prohibited Items include but are not limited to weapons, restraining devices, knives and sharp tools or cutting implements such as scissors and screwdrivers, and some sporting goods such as bats and clubs. We have the right to amend the list of Prohibited Items from time to time.
Passengers carrying hypodermic needles will need to declare them at the screening point. Where possible, the Passenger should provide documentation or identification to confirm the Passenger’s relevant medical condition. Medication should have a professionally printed label identifying the medication or a manufacturer’s name or pharmaceutical label affixed.

Upon delivery to us of items you wish to be carried as Checked Baggage we will take custody of them, and issue a Baggage Identification Tag for each piece of your Checked Baggage.
- Stowage and weight limitations apply on some of our services and Baggage may at times need to be transported on a different flight to the Passenger.
- Checked Baggage will, whenever possible, be carried on the same aircraft as you, unless we decide for safety, security or operational reasons to carry it on an alternative flight.
- Baggage fees are non-refundable.
The following items must NOT be included in your Checked Baggage. You will be required to repack any such items into your Carry-On Baggage or make alternative arrangements for their transportation, as appropriate.
- Dangerous goods
- Fragile, delicate or perishable items laptops
- Items with a special value, such as money, jewellery, precious metals, silverware
- Negotiable papers, share certificates, securities or other valuable documents
- Cameras
- Personal electronic equipment
- Commercial goods or business documents, or passports and other travel documents
- Essential medicines
- Items we determine are unsuitable for carriage by reason of their weight, shape or size, fragility, contents or character, or for safety or operational reasons, or the comfort and convenience of other Passengers
- E-cigarettes
If you carry items in contravention of these Conditions, we will have no liability, and use all available defenses against any claim, in respect of any damage, loss or destruction of those items.
Checked Baggage can also be delayed or lost, therefore items with a special value or which you may urgently need should be kept close to you in Cabin Baggage.
Excess Baggage
Baggage in excess of our stated free Baggage allowance may be accepted for carriage at a fixed rate per piece as appropriate to the Baggage allowance applicable for your Ticket. We may at our discretion refuse to carry your excess Baggage. We bear no responsibility or liability if for operational, weather or reasons beyond our control we carry your Baggage on alternative flights other than the flight you are booked on. “Operational reasons” may include for example weight limitations for the flight. If we decide to carry the Excess Baggage but decide not to charge you for some or all of your Excess Baggage, this does not mean that you will not be charged when you check in for any further flights on your itinerary. Other airlines may also charge different rates for Excess Baggage.
Items Unacceptable as Baggage
Items which are likely to endanger the aircraft or persons or property on board the aircraft, such as those specified in the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Technical Instructions for the Safe Transport of Dangerous Goods by Air and the International Air Transport Association (IATA) Dangerous Goods Regulations, and in our regulations. These include, but are not limited to articles such as the following which must not be carried in your Baggage for safety reasons:
- Compressed Gases (Deeply Refrigerated, Flammable, Non-flammable and Poisonous);
- Corrosive materials (such as alkalis, acids, wet cell batteries, mercury);
- Explosives (Fireworks and articles which are easily ignited);
- Firearms and Ammunition Flammable liquids and solids (such as matches, lighters and heater fuels, flammable aerosols);
- Butane Lighters;
- Magnetized materials;
- Oxidizing substances;
- Poisonous, toxic, infectious substances;
- Radioactive materials;
- Chemical oxygen generators;
- Security attaché cases (if fitted with alarm or pyrotechnic material);
- Other dangerous goods (such as offensive or noxious materials and a wide range of items in IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations).
Prohibited to ensure safety for everyone.
Dangerous goods are an item which is not suitable for carriage on an aircraft and may endanger the occupants onboard.
Dangerous goods must not be contained in your checked or carry on luggage, if you have any questions whether the goods are dangerous or not then contact Air Vanuatu before departure to discuss.
For your own safety and security and those of others on a flight, international regulatory authorities have placed certain restrictions or prohibitions on the carriage of dangerous goods or hazardous material (HAZMAT). Dangerous goods are an item which is not suitable for carriage on an aircraft and may endanger the occupants onboard.
Whether stowed in checked baggage, in your cabin baggage, or on yourself, the following items are prohibited to be carried on any Air Vanuatu flight:
- Briefcases and attaché cases with installed alarm devices
- Gases whether flammable or non-flammable (including camping gas)
- Corrosives such as mercury wet cell batteries, acids, alkalis
- Explosives, fireworks and flares
- Flammable solids - such as matches and articles which are easily ignited; substances liable to spontaneous combustion; substances which on contact with water emit flammable gases, lighter fuel
- Oxidising substances such as bleaching powder and peroxides
- Poisonous and infectious substances
- Radioactive materials
- Magnetised materials

Perfumes, hairsprays and any alcohol-containing medicines necessary during the journey which is no more than 0.5 litre or 0.5 kgs per items may be carried on board the flight.
Specific requirements exist for the carriage of camping stoves/fuel containers, firearms and any devices with petrol engines. Carriage of these items will require passengers to prepare the items or arrange documentation in advance of the travel date. It should be noted that most devices with petrol engines cannot be carried as checked or cabin baggage and must be consigned as cargo. Firearms and Ammunition
Firearms and Ammunition declared at check-in, may, with the approval of Air Vanuatu, be accepted under specific conditions.
Once accepted for travel, Firearms and ammunition may be carried together in the customer's checked baggage, provided they are separated within that case or in a separate case.

Security Information
All knives, sharp objects or cutting implements of any kind and any length, whether of metal or other material, knitting needles, and sporting goods, must be packed in your checked luggage. They cannot be carried in your cabin baggage or on your person. If they are, the articles will be removed and not returned.
Passengers carrying hypodermic needles will need to declare them at the screening point. Where possible documentation should be produced. Any medication should have a professionally printed label identifying the medication or a manufacturer's name or pharmaceutical label affixed. It is also advisable to have a doctors letter stating the necessity of using such medication.
Air Vanuatu reserves the right to inspect all luggage before passenger/s are accepted for travel and will refuse uplift if the above terms and conditions are not met.

Payment Options with Air Vanuatu

You can pay for your tickets or cargo with any of the following options below.
Payment with a Credit Card
We accept payment with either Visa or MasterCard
You can either call our Contact Center on +678 23838 to pay over the phone or by completing a payment link we send you.
A 3% credit card surcharge applies to credit card payments.
Payment at one of Our Sales & Ticketing Offices
You can visit our Sales & Ticketing Office to make payment over the counter. We accept the following forms of payment options:
- Cash
- Debit Card / Bank Card via EFTPOS (Accepted Cards from BRED, BSP, ANZ & NBV)
- Credit Card (Mastercard or Visa) - A 3% credit card surcharge applies to credit card payments.
Account to Account Funds Transfer
We offer Account to Account transfer payment option using your internet banking or your Banking app with any of the following Vanuatu based banks: BRED, BSP, ANZ & NBV.
This option is only available to Guests who have an existing Bank account with one of these Vanuatu based banks.
When making payment include the name of the Guest travelling and booking reference into the narration field of our payment.
Once payment has been made please email a copy of your Bank Remittance Advice to [email protected] as proof of payment.
Ensure you include your booking reference in the narration field of your payment.
