Morning: Mount Yasur
A trip to Tanna is not complete without visiting the most accessible active volcano in the world.
There are three daily guided tours to visit Mount Yasur, including a Sunrise Volcano Tour that kicks off at 3.30am with a hike to the crater rim, the highlight being the dawn glow over the ash fields.
Be sure to wear sturdy shoes and bring a jacket for the chilly winds near the summit.

Afternoon: Ash Plains and Lava Fields
After visiting Mount Yasur, explore the ash plains surrounding volcano.
Centuries of activity has built up huge black sand dunes made of ash creating a surreal moon-like landscape.
Exploring the SIWI ash plains at the Volcano entrance on foot gives you the opportunity to take photos of the volcano, jungle slopes and ash plains.

Evening: A Laplap Dinner
Enjoy Vanuatu’s most famous dish made with banana, kumala, yam, and coconut wrapped in banana leaves and baked, sometimes served with meat or fish.
Some resorts offer a cooking class where you will shop for ingredients at Lenakel Market and then prepare traditional dishes including Laplap and Simboro.
You can also spend an evening with a local village learning how to prepare

Morning: Yakel Tribe
A visit to the Yakel Kastom Village, a 30-minute drive from Lanakel, is a great way to experience Tannese culture.
Kastom is a Pijin word meaning that the tribe observes the island’s traditional way of life.
On arrival you are welcomed by a village leader who will provide a tour of the village and insights into village life.
There are day tours available which can be booked through local operators, allow 4 hours for a return trip.

Afternoon: Tanna Coffee
Visit a local coffee plantation and processing factory to learn about Tanna's coffee production.
Learn about one of Vanuatu’s most famous products, the unique volcanic growing conditions, and sample pure organic Arabica coffee on the seed to sip experience.

Evening: Sulphur Bay
On the east Coast of Tanna, at the foot of Mt Yasur sits Sulphur Bay.
An hour’s drive from Lenakel, Sulphur Bay is known for its natural hot springs and is one of the most dramatic and visually striking spots on Tanna.
At its source the hot spring that heats the mineral rich, therapeutic waters run to 60°C but feels like a hot bath.

Morning: Lamnap - The Blue Cave
Pack your snorkelling gear and begin your day at low tide the iconic Blue Cave found on the west coast of Tanna.
Swim through the crystal-clear waters of an underwater passage at high tides, where you will emerge inside the Blue Cave illuminated by a natural skylight in the roof.

Afternoon: Dive Blue Hole Two
10km west from The Blue Cave are the Blue Holes, including Pikinini Blue Hole, Blue Hole One and Blue Hole Two.
Blue Hole One provides endless tunnels and swim-throughs for divers, while Blue Hole Two can be accessed from the shore.
A great place to snorkel amongst colourful corals, reef walls and an abundance of fish. Keep a look out for turtles, dugongs and blue-spotted rays.

Evening: Unique Accommodation
For your last night in Tanna, choose from a variety of accommodation types including luxury and eco-resorts, traditional and tree top bungalows, in jungle garden settings or with a view of Mt Yasur.

Morning: Explore Lenakel Market
Explore the Lenakel Market to experience local life on your last day in Tanna.
Purchase fresh produce, crafts, and souvenirs, and interact with the local vendors.

Afternoon: Visit the Giant Banyan Tree
Standing 80 metres high, over 100 metres across and some estimating it to be several centuries old, the giant Banyan Tree is located a short 15-minute drive from White Grass Airport in Leitouapam.
It is said that when Captain Cook visited Tanna in the late 1700s that the tree was an awe-inspiring size.
Prince Phillip Movement
If time permits, inquire about visiting the Prince Phillip Movement, to learn more about the Yaohnanen tribe who believe the Duke of Edinburgh to be the son of an ancient mountain spirit.
Waterfalls
The Nazureth Twin Waterfall on the eastern side of Tanna is one of the island’s top attractions or visit the Lenuanatuaui Waterfall on the northern side of the island.
